Maria Barbosa-Santos, Executive Director

Maria and her family made the journey from their native Cape Verde Island to the opportunities awaiting in the United States.

She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Mount St. Ida College in Newton, MA, followed by ten years as the Marketing Coordinator for PACE, the state’s Program for All-inclusive Care for the Elderly. Thus began her career path of work and service to the elderly, fueled by her upbringing and love of family.

In 2006, Maria became the Marketing Director at Susan Bailis Assisted Living in Boston, responsible for maintaining the community’s occupancy, networking with local civic groups and the medical community, and planning and executing social and professional events.

Maria was appointed Executive Director of Brigham House in 2013, bringing a unique insight and leadership skills to her position, along with a genuine affection for her residents that has become one of our community’s most valuable assets.

“I love working with seniors,” she says. ”They have so much to share, so much wisdom, so many stories to tell.  I’m continually surprised at how simply taking the time to sit and chat with them can be so rewarding.”

Maria’s passion is cooking and she cherishes her time in the kitchen cooking for family and entertaining friends. Hooked on fitness, she loves exercise and running in the fresh air.

Maria resides in Milton, MA, with her husband, her son and daughter, and their dog, Jake.

One of the pillars of the Brigham House family since joining us as an Administrative Assistant in 2008, Myra has committed herself to our community and our residents with ever-increasing dedication, earning her nursing degree along the way.

Since her arrival, she has also served as a Wellness Nurse and as our Business Office Manager, working directly with the Executive Director. Fully versed in the critical administrative and healthcare functions of our community, Myra loves coming to work each day, interacting with residents and staff, and deriving “a great sense of fulfillment making a positive difference” in the lives of those we serve.

Born and raised in the Phillipines, Myra and her husband live right here in Watertown with their beautiful 11-year-old daughter, Missy. She loves cooking, vacations with family and getting out with her daughter – shopping or digging together in the family garden.

Kaylyn MacDougall, Resident Life Director

Energetic and outgoing, Kaylyn’s internship at Birchwood Terrace in Burlington, Vermont, ignited a passion in her for helping seniors and addressing their physical, social and emotional needs.

She arrived at Brigham House in November of 2014, joining our staff as an assistant in our activities department, exhibiting the qualities, demeanor and interpersonal skills that would lead her to her position as our Resident Life Director. She works tirelessly to plan, organize and execute a comprehensive program of social, cultural and fun activities that keep our residents active and engaged.

Kaylyn is a graduate of Champlain College where she received her Degree in Social Work and is thrilled for the opportunity to continue her vocation working with the residents of Brigham House.

Joyce Jonassaint, Move-In Coordinator

Joyce began her leasing career as a Housing Manager placing college students into shared housing. As Move-In Coordinator for Brigham House, Joyce’s role is vital to ensuring that families enjoy a smooth and successful transition moving their loved ones and their treasured belongings into their new assisted living setting.

Taking full advantage or her organization skills, during her spare time, Joyce runs an event planning business with her family, hosting and executing the details for a wide array of events and social gatherings, ranging from birthdays and banquets to weddings and receptions.

Born and raised in Boston, Joyce embraces her Haitian and Bahamian family culture. She is a single mother of one son.

Donna Pavlin, Business Office Manager

Keeping the day-to-day business of Brigham House humming and running smoothly is the job of our Business Office Manager, Donna Pavlin. And she performs it magnificently.

Donna joined the Brigham House team in 2014, bringing along her pleasant personality, an eye for detail, and a resume of previous experience that enhances the efficiency of our office operations in so many ways.

Married with 2 grown children and a yellow lab, Donna enjoys spending time with her family, bicycling, and relaxing at the beach, with music, or a good book.

Ylli Gjino, Food Service Director

Ylli came to America from Albania in 2001 with his wife, a 6-month old daughter and a passion to cook.

Positions in small restaurants were followed by those of ever-increasing responsibilities in larger Greek and Italian kitchens where he could learn more about those popular cuisines while more fully expressing his culinary talents and blending in his knowledge of Mediterranean cuisine.

Brigham House residents have been the delighted recipients of Ylli’s exceptional talents since he joined our staff in 2009. Now our Food Services Director, residents are treated to a diverse menu of delicious creations that reflect the wide range of Ylli’s culinary skills and experience – dishes that reflect the affection he has for his Brigham House family and infused with a little love in every bite.

Omar Ayala, Director of Facilities

Managing the proper maintenance and building function of Brigham House is a significant task. Proficiency in the many and varied trades it takes to do so are just some of the many attributes Omar Ayala brings to his position as our Director of Facilities.

Prior to joining our team, Omar provided maintenance support for various HallKeen assisted living communities in the Boston area, impressing with his attention to detail, as well as his leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.

He acquired these skills as an ambitious young man working summers and weekends at his uncle’s construction company, later discovering a talent for repair and restoration as an appliance technician. It’s no wonder his favorite pastime is rebuilding automobiles.

Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Lynn from age 3, Omar now resides with the love of his life and two children ages 9 and 7, in Everett. When not on the job caring for the needs or our community, he enjoys every spare moment hanging with his family, teaching them sports and coaching his son’s football team.
